The Department of History at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a Lecturer position in African American History.  We welcome applications from scholars whose research and teaching explore any aspect of African American History.

Successful candidates are expected to effectively teach the history of Black America 1619 to present, African American History to 1877 and African American History since 1877, and more chronologically and thematically focused undergraduate courses on African American History. Lecturers are responsible for preparing and presenting lectures, writing and grading examinations, meeting with students outside of class time, monitoring teaching assistants, and assigning grades.  The teaching load is 3-3. Required:  A completed Ph.D. in History or related area; training in African American History. Teaching experience is strongly preferred.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time, 9- month appointment, non-tenure track position.  Renewal of the position is contingent on the availability of funding, strong enrollments, and strong performance reviews.  The budgeted salary for the position is $60,000.  Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.  This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy.
