Bucknell University invites applications for a full-time, open rank, tenure-track faculty position in Critical Black Studies beginning in the fall semester of 2026.
Bucknell University seeks to hire a dynamic teacher-scholar with a Ph.D. in African American, Africana, or Black Studies, or a related discipline with a specialization in these areas. Teaching responsibilities include Introduction to Critical Black Studies, courses in the candidate's fields, and courses that contribute to the university's general education curriculum with the possibility of serving as department chair in the future. We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching and research will contribute to the Department's interdisciplinary synergy and analyses of antiblackness as a fundamental, structuring animus impacting Black people.
We have a strong preference for candidates who show a commitment to student-centered pedagogical and mentoring practices, and supporting students from historically marginalized groups. The teaching load is five courses over two semesters. We seek candidates with a Ph.D. by the start of the appointment. Candidates in the final stages of completing their degree requirements will be considered, but must complete their degree requirements within the first year of employment at Bucknell in order to continue in this role at Bucknell.
